The 34th Gothia Cup, 13th-19th July in Gothenbug, Sweden

The Gothia Cup is one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the world - known as 'The World Youth Cup'. Approx. 1,600 teams from 70 countries from all over the world will compete at this tournament. Last year the opening ceremony attracted more than 50,000 spectators, and the finals were watched by 24,820 people. Edgars Youth Programme will be joined in Gothenburg by 2 other Ugandan teams: Kampala Kids League (U16) and Uganda Youth Soccer (U13).

Participating in the Gothia Cup allows our young talents to compete against other teams, but also to meet and have fun with the other players. The children will be joined by the coaches of Edgars Youth Programme, who will be responsible for their safety and wellbeing during the trip. This is not the first time EYP travels abroad to compete in a tournament: last year we successfully competed in Kenya. For EYP this is an excellent opportunity to profile ourselves and to exchange views and experiences with other coaches and soccer clubs in the world. And last but not least to promote Ugandan Youth Soccer inside and outside Uganda

Though ofcourse we will play to end up in the finals, the ultimate goal is to play as much soccer as possible, enjoy the game and have fun with the other young players who participate in this tournament. And hopefully also some sightseeing in Sweden!
