Girls recruitment still on (20th February 2011)

Edgars Youth Programme (EYP) has always recruited girls from age four to seventeen years who are interested in playing football( soccer) or  as volunteers in other related activities. Coach Maurice is in charge of the Girls football and continues to recruit the girls. Coach Maurice surprised the coaches when he mentioned that some of the girls recruited and  those seen as playing excellent football, required him to reach out to the Parents who had hitherto refused the girls from playing football.Girls have such problems  when they reach twelve years. The General cultural belief is that girls  twelve years and above should not be involved in football or other sports but rather be in homes doing cooking or house chores.

EYP however wishes to inform the entire public that they recruit girls in these programs and it has proved to be more beneficial to the girls than if left at home. Infact the  EYP U15 Girls team is the runner up in the 2010 Uganda Women independence championship played at Old Kampala field. The recruitment for Girls is still on and Parents are advised to encourage them to play the sport they have interest in.

16.04.2009 'DOUBLE PASSING' Theme for holiday Program!

First term Holiday Program will begin on 27th April 2009 and the theme for the program will be Double Passing. This was revealed by Assistant Communications Manager Coach Segirinya Saidi. Segirinya says double passing is a type of pass where a ball is played diagonally between two teammates in a v-shape who are trying to beat an opponent. This type of pass helps players develop mentally, improve on the accuracy of passing, improve on their reaction and speed as well as utilizing space while overcoming an opponent. It is a surprise and quick move that involves 2 players overcoming an opponent and is usually played while attacking. In real life situation double passing can be related to sharing ideas and working as a team to achieve a common goal. There is need for the children to know that by passing on ideas (things they know) to one another, the message reaches to many and in the end they all become winners. Double passing involves an element of team work players should not  be mean with the ball but rather share it through passing. So we intend to teach the young ones the importance of sharing for instance knowledge, food, refreshments, and many others things that happen off field but can be related to double passing on the field of play. The Holiday program will begin on 27th April at Aga Khan Primary School after the kids get holidays next week. Segirinya said, "We shall emphasize team work and sharing with each other among the children". Registration is going on at EYP offices along Martin Road near Quality Super Market opposite Petro fuel station.
